Dialogues on the Refugee Crisis – Refugees in America

Leaders: Gardner Friedlander & Mark Chelmowski; assisted by Pr. Bruce

Cost: Free-will offering to cover material costs.
Day/Time: Tuesday nights from 7-8:15pm
Dates: Starting Tuesday, January 8 for 7 Tuesdays in a row
Contact: Gardner: or Mark:
Topic Info: It's a tough topic, both at a local community level and from a national policy perspective. To bring perspective and meaningful conversations around this topic, The Dialogues On: The Refugees Crisis Learner Book offers eight unique perspectives by experienced authors from renowned organizations such as World Relief and Church World Service. They provide valuable insight into refugee stories and experiences.

We will meet on Tuesdays for 7 weeks starting January 8. Each week we will read some background material, an applicable Bible verse and will view a short video. Then we will have time for discussion in a small group, guided by our Lutheran faith. The purpose of this meeting is both to educate us about this topic and to foster a dialogue among FPLC members. We hope to create a safe space for learning, listening and sharing thoughts and ideas.

A related volunteer group service opportunity will be offered at the end of the 7-week study.

It needs to be exercised and developed. And God uses a predictable pattern and process to build your faith. It's what Pastor Rick calls the Six Phases of Faith. Once you understand these six phases, you can cooperate with God in the process of strengthening your faith and building your character.

Philip Yancy, a Christian journalist, takes the reader with him on his very personal journey to Jesus. Yancy, using his flair for honest, vivid, well-informed down-to-earthiness, guides us to take a closer look at the Biblical Jesus and his motivations, to help see our Savior as he really was and give us insight into what that means for us, living as followers of Jesus. Information from the book will be presented, which will give us much to discuss. You don't need to read the book to participate, but it can be found online.
